The moment Potomac State finds out they are seeded 11th in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

KEYSER, W.Va. (WV News) — They gathered Friday morning, players and supporters, at the University Place Theatre on campus to learn their fate. Last season, the Lady Catamounts drew the 16th seed, pitting them against the nation's top-ranked team in round one. This year, in a bit of good news, Potomac State learned they had been seeded 11th.

As the 11th seed, the Lady Catamounts (43-3) will take on sixth-seeded Jones County Junior College (46-8). The Jones County Bobcats hail from Ellisville, Mississippi and are the Gulf B District Champions.

Jones has qualified for the NCJAA World Series in eight of the last 11 years, were National Champions in 2018, and have finished as runners-up a total of four times. At one point this season, Jones had a 25-game win streak.

The Potomac State/Jones matchup will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May, 23.

In addition to learning their personal fate, the Lady Catamounts watched as the entire bracket, consisting of 16 teams, was revealed. What follows are a description of the full bracket, broken down between the left and right sides. Potomac State will be competing in the right side of the bracket:

Analysis

A season ago, Potomac State incurred the tallest of tasks in drawing top-seeded Des Moines Area in the first round of the tournament. The Lady Catamounts played outstanding, taking Des Moines to the brink in a 6-5 loss.

In the double elimination tournament format, Potomac State then lost to Triton College 4-0 to end their successful season.

This season, with a beefed-up resume, Potomac State has moved up a full five spots in the seeding to the No. 11 spot. While success at any national tournament means competing against the best of the best, the higher seed can hopefully work to the Lady Cats’ advantage.
